Rebuilding South Sudan

In the book, The Spirit of Politics, Paul Deng Joshua Leek shares how South Sudan found favour when it was time for its rebuilding. He shares many experiences which demonstrate God’s favour towards South Sudan.

South Sudan received heavy financial, diplomatic, infrastructural and investor support from all over the world, willing to help restore the nation. In addition, with the new government came a large endowment fund to help rebuild the nation from the international community. Billions of dollars were released to the new government.

The Lord was showing us that we had received all that we needed from all the nations we had lived in. We had learned how to live in peace, and how the government was run, and we had acquired education, business skills, and exposure to the international scene. Now it was time to bring back to South Sudan these skills and connections so we could rebuild. The Lord orchestrated that South Sudanese must begin to return willingly or unwillingly.

Soon many of the former “lost boys” began to return home to invest in various areas of our nation. Many professional South Sudanese who had been living in the north, and in other nations doing big jobs, began to return to look for opportunities to serve South Sudan. All this was part of the return to inheritance.

Suddenly there was so much hope as so many organizations poured into the land, coming to restore us in all areas with help in post-war trauma counselling and peacebuilding, life-skills, civic education, business education, infrastructure, health, ethics and so many other areas of restoration which had been lost.

Construction companies poured into the land, seeking to invest in building roads, bridges, and buildings of different types, supplying construction material for local South Sudanese to begin rebuilding.

Since 2005 South Sudan became like a darling child on the continent and in the eyes of the world. So many people had a good favour towards our land. A lot of international aid was brought in the rebuilding and restoration of our nation. Oil production increased dramatically after the CPA. South Sudanese received sponsorship for education offered by so many institutions of learning to increase the number of educated people who could run the coming new government. All these were signs of favour.

As you continue reading the book, you discover that on one night, a lot happened. As the clock turned to 20th January, the president of Tunisia escaped the nation after a coup at exactly midnight. He took a midnight flight to Saudi Arabia where he remained in exile as the nation was taken over in a popular civilian coup. That action escalated the Arab Spring which saw the overthrow of Tunisia’s president, the overthrow of Libya’s Col. Muammar Gadhafi and the overthrow and arrest of Egypt’s Hosni Mubarak. Indeed, it was a season of the vengeance of our Lord. We were quite unaware of the linkage between the Jubilee season in South Sudan with all the other events in the region at large.

You definitely want to know all the details about these things. Please attend the launch on the 17th of September at the Rebuilding Ministries International, Green Rokon, Juba, South Sudan.
